Work Online From Home - Making The Switch
Copyright © Mark Scholfield
http://www.MegaHomeProfits.com
For many people, the thought of being able to resign from their often stressful job and crank up their home computer to replace, or even improve upon, that revenue, is a dream that sadly very few seem to be able to make a reality.
There are several reasons why people fail, after all, where the heck do you start? Of the many hundreds of online opportunities out there, which ones can you trust? Do you go for a Franchise? Do you make your own product? Do you act as a middle man and resell other people's products? These all make sense, and can all be very profitable. There are, of course, down sides to each. So lets review them:-
Franchise - you often need to stump up a whole lot of cash to buy your way in. Few people can afford that. Once you are in though, you can end up with your own building, office or shop, managing staff and meeting customers. So if you have a head for real bricks and mortar business, and have some cash to invest, this can pay off.
Own Product - Well, of course, this is the ideal scenario for many, create your own product that the world has just been waiting for, market it, sell it and retire to Barbados. The problem with this is, how on earth do you come up with a viable product that actually has the potential to earn enough money to replace your day job income. That question I cannot answer.
Resell Other People's Products - Well for me, this is the best option for those with little experience of starting a business. It has a very low setup cost, you need very little if any experience, plus it is a low-risk option, meaning you can start it up without having to invest thousands of dollars or quitting your job. Most often, people doing this online start by investing a couple of hours a day after work, slowly building up this business, until the revenue starts to come in, then they can begin to think about quitting their day job.
So Making The Switch to working at home is possible, and you can go for the higher risk strategies, or opt for reselling other people's products, and taking a cut each time you make a sale, without having to stock product or invest heavily yourself.

Affiliate Marketing, Tried & Tested?
Copyright © Mark Scholfield
http://www.MegaHomeProfits.com
Affiliate Marketing is not a new phenomenon, far from it, many hudreds if not thousands of people from all walks of life have done extremely well at it. That, of course, only tells half the story, however. Those in the know will tell you that only 5% of people that get in to Internet Marketing, ever make any money at it. That suggests that 95% fail. This begs the question, "So Is Affiliate Marketing Really Tried And Tested?". This is the question that I will be pondering in this article.
So What Is Affiliate Marketing?
In order to answer the Title Question, one must first full understand exactly what Affiliate Marketing is. In essence, it's selling other people's products for a cut of the Sale. This can be anything from Computer Games to an eBook on How To Raise Twins ! It's fair to say that the array of things that can be sold in this manner is ever expanding. As an Affiliate Marketer, you effectively become the 'middle man', you help people online, to find products that they are looking for, so if's done properly, I guess you could call it 'Targetted Online Supply And Demand'
In the world of online marketing, their are two clear winners, in terms of providing a mechanism for becoming an Affiliate Marketer. These are Commission Junction and Clickbank. The former being concerned with 'real world' products such as sport equipment, computers and pretty much anyting in between. The latter, specialises in online products such as ebooks (usually formatted as a PDF). These ebook can cover everything from "A Sure Bet Horse Racing System" to "How To Bake The Perfect Pie". The ClickBank products pay a much higher commission, as you can download their products, they have very little overhead. It's typical to get upwards of 80% of the total sale for the Affiliate Marketer.
On signing up with these companies, you get an Affiliate ID, and this gets associated with the product that is sold, and the commission is passed on to you, usually once or twice monthly. To simplyfy things a little, when you are an Affiliate Marketer, you are basically the middle man in, you provide the Supply to the Internet based Demand.
Ok, so to get back to the point of this Article, is Article Tried and Tested? Well, in my mind, Tried and Tested means being able to consistently sell products online, without losing your shirt! My experience shows that it is indeed Tried and Tested, as I have personally been successful in marketing products of differing types online, and made a tidy profit. The problem here though, is that most people fail, due in the main to a number of key pitfalls, that are commonly faced when attempting business of this nature. I will outline some of these below, to try and give you a feel for what's involved.
1) Focus & Expectations
A VERY common problem for the 95% of Internet Marketers that fail, is Focus. They do some basic reading up, but then get sidelined by the plethora of emails that hit their inbox each day. If you are serious about making money online, you need to FOCUS on the task at hand, and don't move on until you achieve what you set out to do. Also, far too many people seem to believe the hype surrounding *ALL* Internet and Affiliate Marketing programs, that money will drop out of the sky by pressing three buttons and waltzing off to bed. GET REAL, ANY business worth it's while, will need hardwork and dedication, and will take time to develop into something substancial. There are no OVERNIGHT millionaire programs. Understand, and except that, and you won't go too far wrong.
2) The Product
This never ceases to amaze me when I see some Affiliate Marketers pick a random product, setup their link, and chuck some money at the generating traffic without paying an attention to the actual product itself. Ask yourself this question, would you buy this product? What do you know about it? If you are serious about planning a long term future for yourself from home, you're customers are not going to thank you for you promoting a product that sucks.
There are various ways to investigate the quality of any given product. The most effective of these is to actually buy it yourself. Now how's that for a crazy idea ! Of course, this only works for relatively low cost items, if you are gonna sell a Plasma Television, Google it online and read some reviews, pickup a magazine and read up about it. It's not rocket science, and it's not time consuming !
3) Research
Come on, be real, how long does it take to find out how often a particular item is being searched for online. The answer, no time at all. There are many Free tools, and well as paid tools, that give you this information, so there is no excuse. The other part of this, of course, is knowing how much competition you are likely to have. Lets be honest, it you are trying to sell Viagra online, you're gonna have to compete with millions of others doing the same thing (a quick check of your spam filter will tell you that!). You can still make money, but it's that much harder to achieve. Leave that to the big dogs, and find something with less competition. It really isn't hard to do.
4) Support
So you have taken my advice, and Focused on the Job at Hand, you have done your due dilligence on the product and spent an hour or so researching the niche, but you are still going to need help, everyone has differing experience levels, and differing skills. Pretty much every 'Newbie' is going to need some help at some point, the problem is, most don't ever get it. They sign up willy nilly for this Affiliate Program, and that Affiliate Program, but hardly ever make a sale. You need Support. There are some programs out their that offer this, some promise the world, others baffle you with Videos and MP3 files about this and that, but they still don't ever answer your questions. Sometimes these questions are incredibly simple, but offentimes, these simple issues can mark the fine line between success and failure.
Summary
A lot of what you need to succeed in Affiliate Marketing is down to you, work hard, do the research, allot the time, but you also need assistance, and if you don't get the right assistance, you will find it very hard to succeed. One program that has a fairly decent product set of reliable Affiliate programs, but an exceptional support team, is the Plug In Profits one. This system works, but like all systems, it takes a little time to completely understand, and the support you get is second to none. Issues in Planning
Copyright © Tracy Scholfield
http://www.MegaHomeProfits.com
Nobody can deny that planning is important for a business to succeed because it enables companies to have a sense of direction on what they want to accomplish and how to accomplish it. However, there are also issues in formalized planning that had been raised because of the changing global environment that had challenged the importance of planning itself. Some of these issues should be faced because they mirror the real environment today. Here are some of the issues:
1. Planning can create rigidity- this means that when a plan was made, it is usually made with a specific timeframe and the steps that needs to be completed within this timeframe. However, these kinds of plans were made on the assumption that the environment would not change during that period except for the forecasts that were made at the time of planning. With this kind of planning, managers will have a hard time adapting to unique situations with new ideas and methods because the timeframe and the rules had already been set.
2. Planning isn’t suited for a dynamic environment- the environment today is constantly changing, and as such, plans are usually discarded because it is no longer relevant to the situation that companies find themselves in.
3. Plans cannot replace creativity and intuition- most successful organizations are founded on creativity and intuition. But as companies grow bigger, they tend to become more formalized. And this development makes it hard for companies to continually innovate and come up with new ideas so they tend to lag behind from the competition.
4. Plans tend to focus a manager’s attention on today rather than tomorrow- plans are usually created with a set of tasks that a manager should do on an everyday basis. This hinders him from looking ahead and seeing what may happen in the future. It also limits the manager from grabbing opportunities because he is busy following the guidelines of the plan
5. Formal planning enforces on success which may lead to failure- it is hard to change plans that had been proven to be successful in the past. But these successful plans may be the cause of the downfall of the company if managers aren’t responsive enough to changes.
With all these issues comes the question, “Is planning still relevant?” Yes, it is because businesses would have a hard time surviving without a specific plan in place. The entire organization would become disorganized without proper planning. Actually, everyone agrees that having a plan is crucial for an organization’s success; the problem only arises when the plans begin to become too rigid to accommodate changes in the business environment. So the key to successful planning is to create plans that are flexible enough to adapt to possible changes tomorrow.

Learning To Follow A Budget
Copyright © Tracy Scholfield
http://www.MegaHomeProfits.com
Learning to follow a budget can be very difficult at first. This can be a big concern if you have been use to spending money freely. First step of course is setting up your budget and some guidelines to keep within your budget. Be sure that all expenses are accounted for. Don’t forget to include fun money or entertainment funds if able. Once your budget is put together soundly you are ready to set up some guidelines to assist you in keeping on track with your budget.
One of the best ways to keep you on budget is to stop carrying cash. For most of us while shopping when we see signs offering miscellaneous items for ninety-nine cents we can’t resist. It’s just a dollar here and a dollar there. Those dollars add up fast and before you know it the twenty dollars in your pocket is gone. By not carrying cash you can help stop impulse buying. If you still prefer to carry cash, your best bet is to only take what money is necessary to spend. Give yourself an estimate of what your groceries will cost you. Take only that amount with you. This will help curb the need to purchase excess items, knocking you off the budget track
Always shop with a list, to help prevent unnecessary spending. If you make a weekly or biweekly grocery list, you will only be purchasing those needed food items. Or create a list of cleaning supplies and stick to those isles only. If you allow yourself to wander aimlessly around a store you are allowing yourself to be tempted for other purchases. It can be very hard to stay on budget when desired objects surround you.
Become a thrifty shopper. It can’t hurt to look through coupons. Even a few saved cents per purchase can really add up on savings in the end. Searching through clearance sections in stores is another way to find items you need and save money on as well. You may be pleasantly surprised to see how much you can take home, and still have money in your pocket on your way out the door.
Keeping yourself on a budget is about self-control. It’s fighting the urge to buy what is not needed. If you have a difficult time curbing your shopping habit, keep a friend or relative with you on shopping outings. Someone you can trust to steer you away from temptation. As long as you lower the temptation for purchases, make a list and stick to necessary isles you will prevent yourself from loosing track of your budget needs.

Know Your Competitors
Copyright © Tracy Scholfield
http://www.MegaHomeProfits.com
One of the most challenging aspects of putting up a business is dealing with competitors who want to get a share of your market. But this is one of the realities in business that you have to deal with so strategizing even at the start of your operations is important to become successful in the long run. In addition, it is not only essential to understand your direct competitors because there are also indirect competitors in the market.
Basically, this means that most of the products that are available in the market have complements and substitutes. For example, if a customer wants to buy powdered milk and he could not find any powdered milk available in the grocery store, he may opt to buy the milk in liquid form instead. Similarly, this is also true for any industries because people will always find substitutes for products they cannot find. In line with this having an effective distribution channel that can reach your target customer at their locations will help you greatly in realizing your profit potential.
It would also be wise to look at the product features of your competitors, the price range, and the product quality they offer. This is because being aware of the strengths and weaknesses of your competitors and contrasting it with your own will allow you to formulate strategies that will let you compete effectively in the market. If you are weak in one area and strong in another, it would be wise to put emphasis on your strong points and not challenge your competitors on features that are your weak points. However, you should also expect that there are times when your competitors will point out your weaknesses to your target market to get a larger share, in this case, you need to be sure that your strong points is enough to compensate for the things that you lack.
In addition to your current competitors, you should also anticipate future competitors because it is possible that many of them will enter the market in a few years. Having a strong strategy and an established customer relationship will enable your business to survive these challenges. It is observed that most new companies put emphasis on their lower price range and this can either be a good thing or a bad thing for your company. For example, it can be a good thing if the product that new entrants offer has a low price but inferior quality as well because it will establish your brand as a superior product. However, if they are offering superior products at a much lesser price, then you may need to engage in a price war. Always remember though, that your strategies should depend on your particular situation and the perception of your market.
